How To Reduce The Threat Of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) By Becoming A Keyboard Commando
Posted on January 5th, 2012
With all the problems of modern office working Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) doesn’t look like going away anytime soon. It continues to mess up people’s lives and we still need to work at computers so unfortunately the two go hand in hand.
With that said some of the actions we perform daily are a lot more harmful than others. It’s important to recognize this and take steps to avoid the worst of them if at all possible.
One of the biggest culprits is also one of the most useful. The humble mouse.
How can a mouse increase the chance of RSI? Although it’s an incredibly useful device your mouse also places a lot of strain on your body and this isn’t always apparent. It’s the way we use it that causes the problem.
Often we keep our hand on the mouse even when we don’t need to. This creates

Creating a Bedroom Oasis
Posted on December 28th, 2011

Recently, my husband and I have been decorating like crazy in order to do our beautiful English Cottage style home justice. However, like so many others, we decided to wait until almost every room in the house was decorated before we started on our own bedroom. Now, I regret our decision to delay. I wish we had chosen to spruce up our own space before focusing on the rest of the house, because really, we are the ones that spend the most time in our house, so we should put ourselves first in that aspect. Now that we’re done though, we couldn’t be happier with our new space!
Whether we retreat into our bedroom to escape the chaos of everyday life or we simply need some good, old-fashioned shut-eye, the bedroom should become a private vacation. With the fast-paced quality of life that so many enjoy in this day and age, everyone needs a place where they can let loose, unwind, and be themselves. I k
Flowering Loropetalum is a Shrub for All Seasons
Posted on December 9th, 2011
“I was sorry because I had no loropetalum, and then I met a man who had no snowdrop.”
With tongue in cheek, the famed garden columnist Henry Mitchell wrote these words three decades ago, and I had to smile when I read them recently in an anthology of his work. The only loropetalum that gardeners knew way back then was the original species – Loropetalum chinense, sometimes known as the Chinese fringe flower, a rather nondescript evergreen shrub that wasn’t especially popular.
But things things have changed since then!
If the great man were alive today, I bet he’d trade his snowdrops in a heartbeat to get his hands on one of the modern loropetalum cultivars pictured here. The hybridizers and nurserymen have really done their magic. Today, bright flowers, burgundy foliage, and a graceful, arching habit combine to give loropetalum year-round appeal.
It was back in the early 1990s when these pink-flowered selections made their debut, and I can still remember when they first hit the garden centers. They’re u
Why Is Selecting The Right Office Chair Mechanism So Important? The Function Factor
Posted on November 29th, 2011
So what’s the big deal with an office chair mechanism?
Imagine you had a large lawn that needed to be mowed every week in summer, it’s unlikely you would use a push mower. Its lack of flexibility would make your task unbearable as you huffed and puffed cutting it.
Well the wrong mechanism can easily land you in a similar situation and make your working day intolerable.
In this article we’re going to take a look at what controls every office chair – the chair mechanism.
Here are the 3 areas we’re focusing on:
- What exactly is an office chair mechanism?
- What functions on an office chair mechanism are vital?
- What types of office chair mechanisms should you avoid?
Let’s begin with the mechanism itself, the chair’s gearbox.
What exactly is an office chair mechanism?
Office Chair Mechanism On Underside Of HÅG Chair
The mechanism is the heart of any office chair, quite simply it is the means by which the core functions of your chair are controlled.
It’s mounted underneath the chair seat and because it’s hidden from view most people never give it a second thought.
Which is just as well because they can look pretty strange.
Seating manufacturers generally do a pretty poor job in explaining what the different functions of a mechanism are for. They assume that b

Getting Down To The Nuts and Bolts of Fixings and Fasteners
Posted on November 26th, 2011

Getting down to the “nuts and bolts” has always been synonymous with looking at the essential parts, integral to the successful completion of a project; when you’re talking about a construction project, saying this is as pertinent as ever. It is easy to overlook fixings and fasteners when you are first planning a project, but without the nuts and bolts your build will never get built.
There are hundreds of different types of fasteners, each designed specifically so that you have the right pieces holding parts of your project together. You will need to consider a number of factors when choosing the right fastener; if you are building something out of wood (for instance), then there is a good chance that you will want to use wood screws. But s
