Flood Lights with Home Security Feature
Posted on November 17th, 2011
Home security is important, but in addition to the basic systems and devices, it doesn’t hurt to have some sneaky surveillance products in the mix too. Remember, burglars are opportunists so it’s beneficial to stay on step ahead.
The Mini Gadgets MiniFloodLightCam is an interesting design. It features a typical round floodlight with energy-efficient LED bulbs. It stands about 7.5” tall, but it’s very different from typical floodlights you have ever purchased before. As well as providing light, this model also features a DVR motion activation.
Thanks to the 34 super bright LED lights, it will be hard to miss the face of whoever is outside. Maybe it’s just a neighbor or friend, but you will be able to know exactly who it is.

Netflix UK Inks Deal with Miramax

According the Guardian Netflix has inked a deal with Miramax films to exclusively stream films such as Pulp Fiction, Shakespeare In Love, Gangs of New York and No Country For Old Men alongside some other dubious treats such as In Bed with Madonna and Godzilla vs. Biollante. Content deals like this are as much about future media rights as they are back catalogue and the Miramax deal will give Netflix rights to the new Hobbit films and the feature length remake of 21 Jump Street, both anticipated to be big releases.
This is the third major announcement in recent weeks, following hot on the heels of deals with MGM and Lionsgate. Full post…

Why You Can’t Transplant the Pink Lady’s Slipper Orchid
Posted on November 13th, 2011
I took this photo one year ago, on Mother’s Day weekend. I was visiting friends in Fancy Gap, Virginia, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, and found myself being called upon to identify a few varieties of wildflowers that had sprung up in my hostess’ yard. And while I had never seen one of these in person before, I knew immediately what it was — the pink lady’s slipper orchid, increasingly rare and very much endangered.
This lady’s slipper is sometimes called moccasin flower, for the shape of its pouch-like lower petal. In Latin, it goes by Cypridedium acaule. And it’s endangered for one simple reason — it’s extremely picky about its habitat, requiring extremely acid soil and very specific conditions.
If you come across one of these in the woods, enjoy it and take photos, but never try to move it. No matter how c
